About the CCC

History

In the fall of 2003, members of the Wellington-Napoleon communities came together to discuss the future of their communities and to develop a plan for a better tomorrow.  concerned citizens from these two rural west-central Missouri towns spent time brainstorming together on topics from schools and education to churches to community programs.  through hours of discussion and inter-action, they developed a list of top priorities to positively impact quality of life in their communities and for the residents of western Lafayette County.

A key priority was determined to be a multi-purpose building.  the goal for the facility is to serve as a center for programs which will have a direct impact on improved quality of life for area residents with a special focus on youth and senior citizens.  A task force was formed to investigate the feasibility of building a multi-purpose facility and to develop a plan to make this a reality.  after extensive review of the needs of the area, it was determined that the initial discussions were not only current, the actual needs were much greater than originally identified.

Fundraising for the project began in October 2005.  A non-profit corporation was formed and six directors took office.  The propject and ensuing building was named the Community Christian Center (CCC).  An initial boost to the project came from St. Luke EFC (church) in Wellington as the congregation agreed to lease land to the CCC  for $1.00 per year.  The lease includes acreage to accommodate the building and parking and also future playing fields.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held in November 2007 with actual construction beginning in October 2008.

It was with the support of NAP and YOP tax credits from the state of Missouri, plus another $300,000 grant from Missouri that helped push the fund-raising to a total of $1.7 million.  Essentially all of these funds have been invested in the building.

The 18,000 sq. ft. facility opened in mid-November 2009 with sports program, a community cafe, full kitchen and  meal service three days per week.  the Board anticipates completing the upper level in the near future to include a number of meeting rooms and facility offices.

  1. What is the relationship between the CCC and Wellington-Napoleon R-IX School District?

The partnership between the CCC and the school is one of the CCC’s most important and closest partnerships. Youth are the lifeblood of our communities, and the CCC has partnered with the school for educational classes, a peer mentoring program, staff, faculty and student retreats, athletic team practices, and athletic tournaments. The CCC is thankful for the support of the W-N school district, and looks forward to continuing to work together with the school in the future.

  1. What is the relationship between the CCC and St. Luke Church in Wellington?

The CCC building, parking lots and playing fields are located on land leased from St. Luke Church. Therefore, the CCC and St. Luke have a landlord-tenant relationship. St. Luke Church, like all area churches, is invited to use the CCC for any of its programs or activities and has reserved times for activities at the Center. Due to the fact that the CCC is located on land owned by St. Luke Church, St. Luke has some ongoing use of the facility by advance reservation, but the Church must place it’s events on the CCC calendar just like any other entity. It is important to note that members of St. Luke Church do not have any advance reservations or alternate rental rates; rental rates are consistent for all individuals, business and organizations in the area regardless of their affiliation.

If you have a question for the CCC that’s not answered here, or just want to learn more about this exciting facility, please e-mail or call the CCC and share your thoughts.
